On December 14th and 15th, 2016, Ecofish Fisheries Scientist, Andrew Harwood attended a Water Sustainability Workshop in Smithers, BC organized by WWF-Canada and the Bulkley Valley Research Centre. The goal of the workshop was to bring together First Nations, the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and other interested parties to discuss water sustainability and environmental flow needs in the Skeena River watershed. Andrew presented on the topic of environmental flows: what they are, how they are derived, and how the science of determining environmental flow needs fits within the process for making decisions on water allocation.

It was a well-attended and well received workshop that contributed to knowledge sharing and relationship building and explored how the Water Sustainability Act will advance the consideration of environmental flow needs in the Skeena River watershed.
